Final Exam

4)Transformative Photograph : This picture really changed the way I viewed photography, in the way that it made me realize how little we see at a first glance but as you look closer you can see millions of smaller details that make up a good photo. The picture at one glance is a gradient of light and color, going from blue to yellow to orange to black. Then as you look closer you start to see the silhouette of the structures like the dock and the city in the back, you notice the depth of the photo. This picture made me realize how important timing is so that each of these elements can be displayed properly so you take in the entire picture then start to see the smaller things and watch time lapse before your eyes in a still photo.

5)Shape vs Form : Shape is more of a two dimensional identifier for the way that something looks, how it's edges curve or sharply turn, and form is descriptive of a three dimensional shape. Form is how an object that is not flat is built, its structure and the way it looks. They are the difference between an object that is two dimensional and three dimensional.
6)Pattern vs. Repetition: In pattern there is repetition but it can be multiple non repetitive elements coming together to create a single piece. Repetition is the same form, shape,or structure showing up multiple times.
7)About Me Weebly
About Murad Osmann

8)Last 3 Projects:
1) Humans of My Life
2)Follow Me to...
3)First Commercial Shoot

My "Follow Me To..." project was my best project. The project was my best edited set of photos and the best lit. I also managed to include multiple background elements without taking away from the model in the photo. The project taught me how to angle the camera to get the best focus and balance between background and faceless model, it also taught me how to use light better to my advantage and scenery as well as how much time it takes to do location shoots especially ones in which you have to change location multiple times in one day. And I learned how to see models differently as well as the photographer's role in making sure the model is placed correctly and posed so the picture will turn out the best it can.

Humans of My Life Final Photo Project

Aarti Panda: "I have a super special talent for earthquakes, I can detect earthquakes that are under the normal human threshold but nobody ever believes me, But shout out to usgs.gov for always having a map of all the earthquakes so I can prove all the haters wrong. I'm always right. Always."

Kaitlyn Shih: "I joined yearbook junior year and it taught me a lot about photography, design, and layouts."

Mansi Chopra:
"I started dancing when I was 3 and I've been dancing ever since."
"What kind of dance do you do?"
"Jazz,ballet,urban,Bollywood,contemporary"

Rudrik Suthar:" one time when I was younger, I was eating a snack and being a good little boy and a monkey came up and grabbed my food out of my hand"

Sonam Bhuptani:" When I was younger I used to dress up and run around my house pretending I was all kinds of imaginary things. It was my favorite thing to do as a child and it still is that's why I'm in drama now. I love being able to change my identity with a costume change and some mannerisms"

Student Website Review

Period 1: Sharon Hsu: Best Photo
It's slightly blurred around the edges so your gaze focuses more on the center of the picture where the city lights are not as concentrated but the building shapes are more interesting.
Period 2: Estell Kim : Best Photo
Though the two girls are the focus, it shows a bigger picture and gives a size contrast between the girls and the trees. There's a lot going on in the picture, as you continue to study it, you find the different light patterns, other trees in the background and the expressions of the girls.
Period 3: Jason Stiltz: Best Photo
It at first seems like a very simple picture but it shows depth, there's a light shining through the center of the shed and it came through very well. The sky and the hills in the very back create a light gradient that adds to the overall picture.
Period 4: Kaitlyn Shih: Best Photo
This picture showed a lot of small details you might otherwise overlook. The imperfections are what make it a perfect photograph, there are small dirt particles on the person's fingers and you can see the lines on their hands while being able to see the details of the plant and the dirt and all the minerals and sticks that are in it.

Story with a Photo- Lights on the Water

This bay is in Berkeley, CA at around 7:30pm when the sun had almost
completely set and the last bits of light were just about to extinguish.
There's a silhouette of the town on some hills across the water and
the dock in the center that extends into the bay. The lights create a gradient
of color that you may not otherwise see and reflected off the bay to show texture in the waves

MSJMCW

I walk out of my quiet classroom toward the buzzing of the horseshoe. It's filled with different alluring scents and fragments of conversations I'll never know the end to. I hand my ticket to the friendly face behind the stand and they trade it for a plate full of fragrant sustenance. As I take my first bite, my mouth is filled with an explosion of flavor that entices the images of fireworks and paintings you may only see in museums, behind my eyelids. I walk around and observe the commotion surrounding each booth and recognize the hard work that goes into this production each year. The blending of different cultures and the acceptance of each of them comes without a thought when there's food involved. Food carries no prejudices and it helps bring people together, that's what multicultural week does, it brings people together.

Shutter Speed and Everything after

Partner: Pavi B.
Photo
1) It has fast shutter speed because it captured the trucks moving on the right without blurring their image. On the highway trucks tend to move pretty quickly so it would be difficult to capture a non blurry photograph of them with a slow shutter speed.
2) My rule of composition:Leading Lines. There are leading lines in the picture that draw your eye further down the highway and you gradually notice more and more in the photo than just the flipped truck.
Pavi's rule: Balancing Elements, there is no main subject that draws all of your attention to the center of the photograph but there is a balance in the photograph because there are subjects on both sides of the pictures, trucks, and a similar background, the greenery.
3)Element of Art: Lines because as I said before there are numerous lines in the picture from the lines that separate the lanes on the highway to the edges of the trucks. There is a railing in the center to separate the sides of the highway that are driving in different directions that forms lines going in multiple directions.
4)Principles of Design: Proportion. There is a difference in sizes of the trucks and other objects within the image that contrast with each other whether the size difference is caused by distance from the photographer or just because of the actual size of the objects.

I'm guessing the shutter speed was about 1/500

Favorite Picture from Lens Slideshow: Look From Behind, With Feeling

Picture 5

This picture demonstrates symmetry with the players being on both sides of the Eagle and there are two light posts one on either side of the Eagle but the symmetry is offset by the soda bottle that's sitting on the bench. One of the reasons it's my favorite photo is because it shows a lot going on behind the Eagle's form but it isn't chaotic, there are various discussions happening and the eagle seems to be a spectator in the entire scene.
There's also almost no one with their faces showing so the one guy who is facing the Eagle and almost the photographer stands out and your eye is drawn to him after looking at the Eagle right in the center of the Photograph. There's also a lot of lighting all over the photo which helps you see details in the floor and the uniforms of the players that you might not otherwise notice.

Multimedia Fest 2015 Poster Questions

Why is it good?
The information flows better and doesn't look as awkward on the poster as it did on the last one. And the pictures are being shown in a more creative way.

Why is it better than the last one?
We found better ways to organize the information and the pictures we put in so that it would flow better and be more aesthetically pleasing whereas the last one was more of a trial and error and we were trying to just get everything in while not looking plain.

What did you do to create it?
We used a gradient to do the background color and decided to use more cohesive fonts for the information. We tested out positioning the text in different ways like sideways and slantways to see which would work better with our new poster design. We used the free transform tool and a feather radius to blur the edges of the photos so they would blend in better with the background as opposed to looking like we just put them on the poster without any attention to detail. Then we also used the pinch effect to make the pictures look like they were coming out of the computer we put on this poster to add to the theme of the Multimedia Festival.

Period 3- Semester Final

  1. My favorite picture is the first picture in the slide show of the men carrying two wounded people with others in the background partially obscured by the fog and smoke. The best part of the picture is it shows the determination in their eyes to get the wounded people they have to a safe place to be cared for and treated for their injuries, while also showing some of the fear and nervous excitement they have at the fact that there was an airstrike and must now realize some people may have died. There's also a lot going on in the background, there are people still searching and some appear to be calling out. there is also an illuminating light that's cast over them probably because the smoke and ash in the air is diffusing the light.
  2. The best picture is of the light house(#5) with the waves crashing against the rocks it stands on. The photographer took it at exactly the right time in order to catch the wave wrapping around the lighthouse and the cliff and having the foam be white. There is also a contrast between the bright white of the water as it hits the air and the lighthouse and everything around it and the darkness of the sky and clouds behind it that really highlight the event that is being captured. Though it looks like that day was a very dark day and maybe even stormy, there's a good light cast onto the focus of the picture.
  3. My best work this semester was my album cover recreation. I managed to get the lighting right so that in editing it wouldn't be as difficult to brighten her face to show her expression more and contrast it with the darkness of her hair. The expressions and body positions are almost identical and I believe I managed to recreate the album cover quite successfully. If I had had more time I probably would have tried to recreate the outfit a bit better and used a pin on a jacket rather than using the end of a string on the coat to act as the pin in the picture.
  4. My three rules are Cropping, symmetry, and perspective.
  5. Inspired by Clarence H. White
symmetry and perspective are shown here with the two white pots
and two trees being offset by her presence and
the photo being taken off center to show her body angling better.
  6.  Get Closer.
  7. There are more people to photograph when you go out and observe and take pictures. There are more opinions and views on how a photograph can be taken. Their perspectives are different from yours so they can look at a problem from a different point of view. There's more of a group mentality and every can keep each other in check to make sure work is getting done.Everyone interprets information differently so they can all come together and use the different takes on the idea and explain it their own way.
  8. Not everyone is open to everyone's ideas. There may be a few people who do more work than the others in the group. There may also be a few people who don't pay attention during class so if those who are listening miss it then there isn't really anyone to consult. There may be opposing points of view on how to come at a project and these people may not be open to all of them. The group members may not get along.
  9. My favorite work by another person in the class is Mahads apple from the Inspired by Clarence H. White photo set. He managed to brighten the dark background of the picture while editing and I thought that must've taken a lot of effort and it definitely paid off.
A little history
  1. My photographer was Clarence H. White. Because he was able to capture the spirit of America so well, other photographers came to him to learn more about photography and he built a school for photography called the Clarence H. White school of Photography which was the first school in America to teach it as an art form.
  2. Her most famous photograph is called "Migrant Mother". The photo was taken in March of 1936 at a camp for seasonal agricultural workers She was a photographer for the Resettlement association.
  3. There were two founders of the magazine, John Ames Mitchell and Andrew Miller.January 4 1883 was when they started publishing.
  4. Magnum 1947
  5. September 5, 1936 in the village of Espejo
